Cape Town experiences
Best things to do in Cape Town
A shortlist rather than a long list — the days we actually build Cape Town itineraries around, and how to time them.

The days we plan first
Table Mountain at sunrise
Private cable-car slot before the crowds, with a guided plateau walk.
Cape Winelands day
Chauffeured tastings through Stellenbosch and Franschhoek with a chef's lunch.
Cape Point & Chapman's Peak
Coastal drive, penguin colony stop and a seafood table by the water.
Design & food district
Woodstock galleries, Bree Street dining and a curated market morning.
Ocean day
Catamaran along the Atlantic Seaboard or a guided kelp-forest swim.
Worth adding with more time
- Hermanus and the Whale Coast between July and November.
- A Franschhoek overnight on a wine estate.
- Kirstenbosch early, before the tour buses.
- A Constantia tasting morning if you don't want a full Winelands day.
- A township-based food or music experience with a local host.
How to sequence a week
- Keep Table Mountain and any ocean day flexible — book them as movable.
- Winelands works best mid-trip, once you're driving-relaxed.
- Cape Point is a long day; leave the evening free.
- Save the food and gallery districts for a windy day.
What we book in advance
Restaurant tables, private tastings and cable-car slots in summer. In December and January the good tables go weeks out, which is a large part of what our planning covers.
Frequently asked questions
Both work. We often pair an early cable-car slot with a guided plateau walk, which gives the views without the full climb.
Ready when you are
